SAGUNT

A municipality enclosing the history of the Romanization of the Valencian lands. It is divided between its historic centre, which conserves the main vestiges of the past in the area around the castle and the Roman theatre, and the newly-developed area of the port, which arose from the rise of the steel industry during the last century, and its beaches. The local agriculture is specialised in orange-growing. The autonomous port generates significant commercial activity related to the administrative region’s industrial area. Located in the interior is the fishing port, which provides high-quality seafood to Sagunto’s restaurateurs. There is an urban-type, blue flag beach next to the port, which offers a wide choice of restaurants and bars in the evening. The other beaches, located to the north of Canet, enjoy a more secluded air, with exotic dunes and shallow waters. Low-rise residential developments lend a calm air to an area that is somewhat remote from the most common routes. Nudism is allowed in the north end of the Corinto-Malvarrosa beach, in an area known as Malvasur. Almardá Beach has a blue flag. Children can still find wild places on this beach in which to build huts between the reeds and plan new adventures.
