Las Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park is located in the administrative region of Requena-Utiel, between the municipalities of Villargordo del Cabriel, Requena and Venta del Moro. It is one of the most important natural areas in the Valencia Region by virtue of its flora, fauna, geological characteristics, landscape and socio-economic and cultural values linked to traditional rural life. On 17th June, 2005, the Valencia Regional Government declared the 31,446 ha of the privileged area of the River Cabriel and its extensive hydrographical area a Natural Park. Special emphasis was placed on “Las Hoces” and “Los Cuchillos del Cabriel” due to their exceptional environmental and scenic values.
The River Cabriel forms a natural border between the Valencia Region and Castile-La Mancha, constituting throughout history one of the most important communication routes between the plateau and the Eastern regions. As a consequence, the human footprint is present throughout the territory, which is host to a rich cultural heritage with a notable presence of Hydrological Architecture. The limited human pressure and the presence of high-quality water convert it into a natural space of great interest: it constitutes one of the best river wildlife reserves in the Valencia Region and hosts ecosystems of high environmental value and which are rich in unique species. These ecosystems include riparian, crag and scrubland ecosystems, forming a mosaic of extraordinary beauty.
